The Tandoori Trifecta Strikes Again

Every week, either Moira Herbst, Prof. Fraudwha, or Steve Hamm at Business Week, the Tandoori Trifecta, post some non-news about outsourcing on their site.

They love the traffic. Mostly it is NASSCOM propaganda, but these articles now get hundreds of comments. Of course, 90% are in favor of the American worker.

But lately, Herbst and Hamm have been htting India, Inc. pretty hard:

"...But U.S. tech worker groups say this arrangement allows outsourcers to displace American workers both while the visa holders are in the U.S. and when they return home. They say the visas depress wages in the U.S. by increasing the supply of workers. An April 2009 report written by Prasanna Tambe of New York University's Stern School of Business and Lorin Hitt of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania estimates that H-1B admissions at the current levels are associated with a 5% to 6% drop in wages for computer programmers and systems analysts over time. Durbin and Grassley say their legislation is aimed at halting the use of U.S. work visas to send jobs overseas and lower wages..."

"...Natarajan Chandrashekaran, chief operating officer of Tata Consultancy. "We certainly have to be watchful."

Yes, Mr. Chandrashekaran, you should be watchful. Don't stand too close to that subway platform.

And I can neither confirm that my threats to these journalist's careers and credit records have anything to do with this sudden objectivity.

Mike, stop comparing India and America. There is no comparison. One is the greatest country ever, the other is a third-world pile of squalor. Indian civilization was great but today's India is a dump.

Can someone give Senator Durbin a call? We need to make an amendment in the 887 bill...

Mike , Instead writing rubbish why dont you start a your own blog and provide a link here ....Stupid idiot ..wasting everybody's time .

TR , you need to kick this jackass out as soon as possible .

Wow, now I know I am having an effect. The Indians think all Americans are stupid and when they come across one that isn't, they're at a loss as to what to do.

At that point they usually start stooping to things like "jackass" "go write some code", etc.

They don't want Americans exposing them but it's too late. It's all coming out now and their only hope is to take over Neilsen and get people like Dobbs off the air by sabotaging their ratings.

Dont gloat Mike

You're having a boring effect on this blog, not the one you hope you for, honestly nobody reads your 10 long cut/copied posts a day, they're all boring yawn blah blah yada ydada, they are killing the tone of the blog, that TR had set, we would have a little fun, fights, entertainment, wit, comebacks etc your posts kill all that, such a yawnsville, boring old man, go away.

@2:10 - Mike does have his own blog, which is more than I can say for 100% of you slumdog shills that post here. Get your own fucking blog, post something that defends your position, or STFU.

Mike's blog is listed on my blogroll.

If you get one, maybe I will list it. The only Indian ones I have are Escape From India and Dahlit Freedom Network.

You scabs have one presence on the internet - www.immigrationvoice.org. And unlike me, those scumbags BAN IPs.

Typical Indu-Facist bullshit. At least I let you scum read my blog, even if I ban you.

Looks like the slumdogs are trying to gather info on me. Beyond my full name, they'll get zip. All my other stuff is hidden and they can't get jack. Go ahead and try. Even if they do I live in an open carry state and know how to defend myself. I use IP anonymizers all the time so they will get some wild goose chase IP in North Korea or someplace if they try to track me. And they thought THEY were the IP experts.

Guys, we can understand the pain of our beloved americans. -- YES, WE CAN.

This is the actually the first time they are given taste of their own medicine. They talk about free trade. They want countries to stop giving subsidies on agricultural/industrial goods, but when it comes to services they are pissing their pants. If you have your cheap goods to sell , we have services to offer.

Seems the capitalist is now turning to socialism.

I, for one, enjoy Mike's comments and his blog.

In other news - I found a thread over on IV:

Dice Opening: Java/Flex Developer - ONLY NON-INDIANS

Of couse, Dice has pulled the post but - 20 pages and 285 comments! After years of the bodyshoppers posting ads for H1B's only, someone posts an ad for NO Indians and holy shit, they're having kittens over it. It became a witch hunt to find out who the RACIST was that would DARE to suggest that an Indian wasn't allowed this position. 'Sue them!' they cried! What's the firm? Post a screencapture of the AD... Call them and harass them... Find an attorney... get him fired! This person must be taught a lesson!

Talk about being hypocritical.

What goes around, comes around and I suspect we'll begin to see more of this as the winds change.

I have written this before - as an Indian-American, I am as outraged as Mike and TR about the way in which the American IT personnel are being taken apart by the dubious practices of India Inc. I do not agree necessarily with everything they write and one wishes Mike would focus on highlighting the dishonesty of India Inc and the H1B fraud brigade instead of trying to tar all Indians and India. It is not a fair fight. India is third-world, USA is the greatest country thus far in the history of human civilization.

I now have the entire Dice ad thread archived for posterity. 20 pages. Whew! Yes they are having kittens at the thought of a job not earmarked for an Indian.

At 6:07 PM , Blogger Mike said...

Hmmmm 'free trade'...... you must mean free-trade India-style. You know - things like BANNING WAL-MART, making it illegal to hire Americans in India, and putting 150% tarriffs on U.S. auto products. Free trade like that.

It's not like Indians have their own Coke or Nike or Microsoft or Apple. If you didn't have U.S. products to buy, you'd have NO PRODUCTS AT ALL.

At 8:40 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

that Dice posting and the resulting IV Thread was probably just an "IV Core" initiative to rally the forum members and spur donations.

"Let us throw a spotlight on discrimination against Indians so that the real discrimination is buried and forgotten by US media."

it appears however nobody cared except IV

@8.51

Americans are not smart enough to take that job. They're just good enough to whine and cry online.

Americans are not smart enough? Indians' IQ is 81 while Americans' is 98. You aren't even intelligent enough to know that you're not supposed to DRINK urine. I don't see too many Indians working at Apple. Did Indians create the iPhone? How about the iPod? How about Mac OS X? Can you name one software product created by Indians? Where is the Indian operating system if you are so smart. No one believes your lies anymore. Everything Indians touch dies. You are making a fool out of yourself when you say "Americans are not smart enough".

Outsourcing work to India to save costs (aka offshoring) is a fool's errand. I've been on both sides of the table, and can conclusively say it-does-not-work!

1. In spite of all the negative rap, the average US worker is the most productive in the world. I've repeatedly observed that an average US worker can easily do the job of 4-5 workers in India. This includes the amount of spoon-feeding, breast-feeding & intravenous inculcation of knowledge/experience. I've seen the same across different companies in the past 6 years.

2. The demand for talent is very high in India, and the Universities/Colleges there do a poor job of turning out market-ready individuals. So the cream (2-3%) is widely distributed amongst different companies. The average new-recruit is someone who has poor communication skills, bad attitude (either too subservient or too arrogant) & inadequate technical skills.

3. The IT companies in India take inadequate freshers off campuses, put them through 3-6 weeks of bootcamp where they are brainwashed into believing they are the best in the world. In a practice known as "blending" they are immediately placed on a project where they shadow seniors (people who did the same thing 2-3 years ago). For the next 1-2 years these new recruits generally perform gopher work (there is no mentoring or structured development of the individual). Typically, these gophers form 45-50% of any project team (which explains the poor productivity).

4. Steel-reinforced Blinkers: The IT workers of Indian companies suffer from a certain blinkered vision. Part of it is due to the way of education, where they are brainwashed into believing the written word without looking at it critically and trying the improve things. So, the knowledge acquired is extremely limited with anything slightly adjacent being considered out of scope. The disadvantage for clients is that they are kissing goodbye all chances of continuous improvement.

5. The India-based IT majors are glorified sweatshops. They primarily have been into land-grabbing (using the muscle of various State Governments), stealing 100s of acres of agricultural-land & other prime real-estate in the name of 'job-creation'. They do not create value for their clients or enrich (skills-wise) their employees. There is no innovation, work-culture or excellence. The only advantages these companies have is a method to exploit the wage & forex differential. Once the Indian economy grows bigger (bound to happen), the exchange rate would inevitably slide, and these IT companies would morph into rel-estate companies.

6. More line managers & CIOs are speaking out on the myth of cost-savings from outsourcing to India. Any organization that has means of defining & measuring key business drivers (things like productivity, customer satisfaction, employee morale/satisfaction, etc) is able to prove with solid date the inverse correlation between 'offshoring' and things the company would really-like-to-improve.
